Today, the new house gets delivered. They will plop both pieces right down on the driveway and leave them there overnight. Tomorrow, the contractors will be placing it on the foundation and doing the inital installation. I have taken the day off from work so I can be there to record the event. I will have both my DSLR camera and my BlackBerry Pearl. You’ll have to wait for the DSLR photos, but I will be Live-Photoblogging the photos I take with the Pearl. I will email each one to my Flickr account right after capture. This is why I disabled the Photo Splicer in Feedburner. To watch the progress, hop over to Flickr.com. You can view the photos I’ve taken up to this point by visiting the All House Photos set.

Somehow, my RSS feeds got mangled, and Feedburner was getting 404 errors when trying to pull my feeds, both posts and comments. For the LJ folks, who make up roughly 80% of my readership, Feedburner grabs posts from my site, re-packages them, and presents the re-packaged posts to the LJ RSS crawler. This allows me to keep track of how many readers I have, and lets me splice in goodies like Del.icio.us links and Flickr photos. I discovered the problem when I went to turn off the Flickr integration so you don’t get inundated with the massive amounts of photos I’ll be posting tomorrow (there’ll be another post about that). It has now been fixed, and the next time the LJ bot visits Feedburner, it should pull this post and probably lots of other posts. You may want to visit my site to catch posts you may have missed.

Yesterday I was aboard the USCGC Taney in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for a volunteer clean-up in preparation for December 7th, the Pearl Harbor Anniversary. There is an article in the Baltimore Sun, and keep an eye on my Flickr photostream for some pictures of the work being done.

There are a lot of choices out there when it comes to winter boots. In many cases, they are styled for the current fashion season, and won’t be worth wearing next year. Chances are they’re also shoddily constructed, leaving you with boots that fall apart on you long before they should.
I am a proud owner of a pair of Sorel boots. They are dark green with a retro-reflective printed motif from the ankle up and black rubber around the foot. They have a removable lining that is a sandwich of wool felt and a flexible metallic material akin to survival space blankets. They are so warm that they’re almost too warm for Maryland winters. They slip right on and have cross-lacing with a cincher at the top – so no tying bows for me! I’ve had this same pair of boots for over 10 years now, and they still look very nice.
Their website even includes a search form to find local retailers that carry Sorel boots, and you can even limit the results to a particular style.
