Medieval Executioner

October 11th, 2007

This happened at work today, via email:

Evil Overlord: For the information of all, here is the phone number to the M.E.’s office in case we need it for an investigation
Evil Overlord: For those who are confused, “M.E.” stands for Medical Examiner
Chief: Oh. I thought it was for the Medieval Executioner’s office. And here I thought my problems were solved. You don’t happen to have their number by chance? I have some business to throw their way.
Evil Overlord: Jacq does.

Dude! We're getting a house!

After going 20 rounds with the Health Department over square footage and percolation, the building permit for our new house has been approved.

Mint Now Open to All

October 11th, 2007

Personal Finance tracking website Mint is now open to all for new registrations. Pop on over there and see if you like it.

A note for the wary and paranoid: you’ll need to enter some sensitive information, such as login information for your online banking – that’s how they are able to retrieve your transactions and balances for analysis and tracking. Read the Mint Safety Page if you need more information.

Groceries: Order Online, Pick Up In-Store

October 10th, 2007

I think it would be just great if my local grocery stores would allow me to shop their aisles via the internet, and place an order for in-store pickup, just like Best Buy, Comp USA, and a bunch of other retail stores do.

I’ll bet busy moms would love this service, too! Order online during naptime, and stop by to pick up the order on the way to picking up the older kid(s) from extra-curricular programs. Not everyone wants to pay the delivery fee of home-delivery groceries, and besides, that service is not available in all areas (my area, for instance).

Mid-Atlantic grocer Harris Teeter offers in-store pickup, but Arlington, VA is a bit far to travel to pick up groceries.

Do you agree that being able to order online and pick up in-store from your local grocer? Send them an email or call their customer service hotline (or put a note in their brick-and-mortar suggestion box) telling them so!

Yes, this is old [in terms of Intarweb Age]. I don’t care, because it’s funny and if you’re a Pirate, you just might think it’s funny, too… (thanks, Emrys!)

Five things I’ll bet can be hard for pirates

The Highlights:

Glass Bottom Tankard

October 4th, 2007

I just bought a glass-bottom tankard on Amazon (using a gift certificate I got from earning points – bonus!). It arrived yesterday, and already I am extremely happy with it. It is a pewter tankard with a glass bottom, and is very high in quality.

Now I can drink my cider without fear of the press gangs ;)

Amusement for a Monday

September 24th, 2007

If you’re short on things to occupy yourself this afternoon, here’s a little gem for you. A college student embarrasses herself and her family when she has a whiny article published by her school’s publication regarding the fact that she has recently ‘discovered’ that the US Navy Academy is Military.

I am linking to the Google Cache of the article because the actual URL is currently autoforwarded to different (and irrelevant) content.
