Hi, I’m Jacqueline Arsenault and you are visiting my personal website, Cordelya.net. I started blogging on Cordelya.net in 2005. From 2003 to 2005, I did my blogging at Livejournal. To contact me, please see my contact options.

Cordelya: Origin

The name “Cordelya” is a persona name that I chose for use at period reenactment events. I chose the name “Cordelya” based on its use by William Shakespeare in “King Lear”. Cordelia is King Lear’s youngest daughter. I changed the spelling both to make it unique, and because period spellings often employ a “y” in places where modern spellings use an “i”.

Over the past few years, I incorporated the name more and more into my personal life. I use it on the Internet for usernames and handles. Some of my friends choose to call me by my chosen name (or the shortened “Cordy”) rather than by my “mundane” given name.

Period and Costumed Events

I attend the Maryland Renaissance Festival every year (since 2002). I began attending the SCA’s Pennsic War in 2007. I also participate in various costumed and history-related events throughout the year in the Baltimore area. These events include Baltimore Pirate Invasion, monthly Chantey Sings in Baltimore and Annapolis, and private events for members of the Jury Rig Privateers.

People often ask me what I “do” while I am at the various costumed events I attend. At MDRF, BPI, and Jury Rig events, I go to spend time with my friends. I attend Pennsic by invitation from friends, but I also spend a large amount of time attending classes on a variety of subjects related to period reenactment and history. I tend to focus on the practical arts such as needlework and costuming. At the Baltimore and Annapolis Chantey Sings, casual sing-along events, I participate in the singing and socialize with the other singers.
